Latin America primed for widespread Cloud Gaming adoption.

Cloud gaming promises a future without expensive consoles and empowers gamers to enjoy a Netflix-like convenience to play their favorite games on any wifi enabled device. Although Cloud Gaming has been making its way in different forms across the planet, perhaps the most ripe market for the promises if this technology is the Latin American market.

In Latin America, the cost of playing video-games typically adds up to US$800 for a console and some games. In this region, the cost of hardware is up to twice as much as it is in the US. In addition, the average salary in this region is over 6 times lower than in the US2. Thus the prospect of spending just US$5-$10 a month to enjoy the same gaming experience is an enticing proposition. One of the only true cloud gaming companies poised to dominate this market is Uruguay based ABYA and is set to launch early 2021.

Currently, the Latin American gaming market is worth over US$4B, making it one of the largest emerging markets in the world. Large companies have avoided emerging markets as their target due to the high rate of piracy (ranking up to 90%3 on some countries). Cloud gaming revolutionizes all of these by eliminating this possibility, since the games are in the cloud and therefore cannot be pirated.

The following table summarizes the target market for the largest economies in Latin America. In just 6 of the total 26 countries in the region, the target market population surpasses the 75 million mark:

For many, Cloud Gaming is a non-essential luxury that offers convenience and variety to the typical casual gamer. To casual gamers in Latin America, Cloud Gaming is the only way most of the population can access culture and recreation through video games.

The aforementioned facts keep Latin America an underexploited market for video games. Huge platform costs (relative to income) have made the market suffer. Cloud gaming changes everything, opening the way for a large dormant market to wake up to a new generation of gaming.
